Leading The Way : New Stone Codes Print

ImageSetting new standards in stone

Following the release of the new stone codes BS-8298: 1 – 4 2010 ACS have reviewed the design & detailing of their fixings to reflect the developments in the new codes.

ImageThe new standards in particular part 2 of the codes requires a more inclusive approach to the design & detailing of the support & restraint systems.

This includes the need for ACS to work collaboratively with other suppliers and quarries to establish and declare to the end user factors such as dowel capacity, stone breaking load at the dowel hole and the flexural strength of the stone panels. This new approach will ensure that the systems are designed considering every aspect of the assembly including the interface between stone and fixing. This should lead to a more considered design solution, increasing the overall integrity of a facade.

ACS have recently presented at the Stone Federation seminar on Stainless Steel Fixings in the stone industry. The presentation aimed to illustrate how ACS are implementing the new stone codes as well as updating the design process in line with the new euro codes.

The presentation also provided a guide to the best practices when designing, detailing and installing stonework support and restraint products.
